What-What?! Week of December 18th

Snowed again yesterday, and then again today.  That's enough of that, don't you think? xP

We celebrated Corwin's 7th birthday yesterday!  It was alright.  We didn't really play any games, because Corwin would rather play with his gifts, and some friends had to go home early because they were sick.  So... could have gone better.  I didn't get any good pictures of him opening presents, because Corwin is just so wiggly.

Anyway, I made him a dragon cake:

Which he was thoroughly enamored with:

It was chocolate brownie with buttercream and a (failed) marshmallow fondant dragon.  I somehow botched the marshmallow fondant -- it wasn't the right consistency at all.  I tried solving the problem by adding more powdered sugar, but after messing with it for a while, it was obvious that I wasn't going to fix it easily.  So I just went with it.

Corwin is pretty excited by his presents -- he got a model tank and a model boat, some new Lego sets, an R/C truck, a Harry Potter T-shirt, and a Domino Rally set.  We already got out his model tank, and he's already had a miniature war with it, his army men, and his model fighter plane.  One of the Lego sets is a Batman one, and Saffron made a mini Gotham City to go along with it.

What-What?! Week of December 11th

They kept saying it was going to snow... and it didn't, and it didn't, and then...

IT DID!

Not a ton, but enough to where I worked from home.  Ozzy and I took a break in the afternoon and made a miniature snowman family.

Other than that, we've been getting ready for Corwin's birthday and Christmas.  Got a tree up and decorated, and I spent part of last night rearranging presents to get them to (mostly, sorta) fit under the tree.  We bought a smaller tree this year than last, and it's a bit apparent. :P

Next weekend, we'll be celebrating Corwin's birthday, which I feel a bit bad about, because I have spent NO time at all on it.  He wants a Skyrim (like the video game) birthday, and I'm at a bit of a loss what to do for it.  Whatever I do, I'll post pictures next week.

What-What?! Week of December 4th

It's supposed to snow this week!

So, in preparation for this, we're stocking up on food, and getting our Chrismas tree... 'cuz, uh, that's important.

Other than that, not much going on.  Planning on replacing the back door on the house next weekend, which will be quite exciting.  After looking at the directions, we decided to do it ourselves.  Gotta put lights up on the house, too.

That's it for this week -- hopefully something more interesting for next week. :3

Art Thursday -- December 1st

"GANMO EXPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Corwin has absolutely covered our house in paper this week -- last week, he had very little interested in drawing or writing, but this week, that's all he's done.  This paper describes some Mech armament, including medium lasers, EER small bombs, medium pulse bombs and WHD death bombs.  I think the number of exclamation marks shows his enthusiasm. :P

What-What?! Week of November 27th

Happy after Thanksgiving!

We have really had the gamut this weekend -- we ate delicious food, played around a lot, stuff has been on fire, and now a kid has thrown up.  So that really covers all the possibilities.

The dinner!  Just us this year.  Lotsa food at the table, though. :)

Our pies.  The peach on the right has rabbits on it, because all I could find were Easter cookie cutters.  Still, the kids were excited about having a rabbit on top of their pie:

Other things I did this weekend was work on the car; I tightened all the fuel line hose clamps, because those tend to leak a bit when it's super cold.  Osric and I also cleaned the car's headlights, which were getting cloudy.  They are way prettier now:

That's it for this week.

What-What?! Week of November 20th

I really don't have much at all to post about this week.  We haven't done much other than survive the week.

Yesterday, the husband and I did drop of the children at the local YMCA, and headed out for a date.  We hit up a Greek restaurant in Edmonds, which was delicious -- we had a pretty big variety of foods, like spanakopita (spinach mixture wrapped in filo), tiropita (creamy cheese stuff wrapped in filo), souvlaki (kabobs), and for dessert, orange galaktoboureko, which is a Greek custard dish.  It was delicious, and so nice to have dinner with just the two of us.  It's been about 2.5 years since the last time we were able to do this.

Afterwards, we hit up a local arcade.  It was alright -- they had tons and tons of pinball machines, but not too terribly much of anything else.  We'll probably go back again, but mostly because there aren't a lot of other options for arcades around here.

This coming week is Thanksgiving, so we're starting to get ready for that -- planning on turkey, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and some type of vegetable.  For pies, we're looking at pumpkin, peach, and Pegasus pie (chocolate and walnut or pecan).  So we'll probably have pictures of those next week. :B

What-What?! Week of November 13th

Not much going on this week -- mostly just working, though yesterday I did do some crafts with the children.  Saffron very nicely shared her big craft bin with her brothers, and they had a good time making stick puppets and wands:

Making her wand -- pink hearts and sequins.

Little birdy puppet -- the base is a GIANT pom-pom.

Corwin gave his bird the biggest tail.  This is also the only non-blurry picture I could get of him with his bird.

"I cast a spell on you!"

All three reading together. <3

What-What?! Week of November 6th

More Halloween stuff!

We did pumpkins this year:
Drawing designs on the pumpkins... Corwin did an angry face.

Saffron did the happiest pumpkin.

And Ozzy drew a crazy face on his... then insisted that daddy not cut it out at all.  He only wanted the top cut off his pumpkin.  So that's what we did.

Cutting.

Ta-DA!  We left the top off Ozzy's so you could see some light coming out of it.

Halloween night -- this is after we finally got home from work.  I took the husband and kids with me, because there was a Halloween party that day at work, and families were invited.  So the husband hung out with the kids and took them to the movies, then came back to work for the party.  Ozzy won the kid's costume contest with his Blue Ninja outfit, but all the kids had a good time playing and hanging out.

Saffron went as a dryad -- she sewed all the leaves onto her shirt herself!

Corwin was a bat, with a bat mask.

And Ozzy was a blue ninja -- he did have a mask, but chose not to wear it.  It took a lot of tries to get a good picture of him, since he insisted that he stand on one leg and pose.

Kids got a lot of good candy -- we didn't get too many trick or treaters this year, but that's okay.  We bought full-size candy bars from Costco, so it's not like we don't want to eat them. :P

Art Thursday -- November 2nd

"Me on Halloween"
Ozzy made this picture, with his potato people.  I am the banana-shaped person standing next to him -- he is in the middle, wearing his blue ninja costume.  On the right is a monster.  Everyone is wearing polkadots, because that was fun to do with the marker.

What-What?! Week of October 30th

Yesterday was Saffron's birthday!  She is now nine.  My goodness.

She has a Dungeons & Dragons themed birthday party, which was pretty fun to put together.  A lot of it came about last-minute the night before -- the two of us sitting around saying "...you know what would be cool?".

I made a picture of a beholder, to play "pin the eye on the beholder" with.  This was totally inspired by the husband's D&D birthday many years ago, with the beholder piƱata.

The husband and I also made a treasure chest, for her presents.

And we made a mimic -- a creature that looks like a real object (a crate, in this instance), but is actually a man-eating monster, waiting for someone to come by.

Playing with it in the mirror. :P

Ozzy insisted on getting a picture of him with his "claws".

All the kids had a good time playing pin the eye on the beholder:

We then defeated the mimic, by throwing "magic missiles" at it.  Saffron took out a tooth on her first throw:

The neighbor's boy pinned his tongue to the floor!

The husband made her gold coin rice crispy treats -- covered in gold sprinkles.  These were delicious.

Saffron got a ton of presents, including Legos:

Headphones:
(It feels like Saffron's breaking the 4th wall in this picture).

The husband and I got here a giant jar full of craft items, and a HUGE Playmobil zoo set:

She also got a learn to crochet set, and some books (one on Norse gods, the other one a fiction piece by Neil Gaiman).

Overall, it was a good day. :)

What-What?! Week of October 23rd

The name of the game this week is Halloween crafts. :D

Our house is now decorated for Halloween:
The husband and I made gravestones to decorate our front yard, with lovely quotes like "Oops", and "What?", and "Are you still serving breakfast?".

We also bought the kids some Halloween door hangers, which they had a good time coloring.

I only have a picture of Saffron's finished one, though?

Michael's Weekly Kid's Craft

Every week, Michael's does a kids craft event with holiday themed crafts.  We've never gone before, so it was new to us.  This week was yarn ghosts, and the kids also colored pictures of their costumes while they waited for the hot glue gun to warm up:

I love Ozzy's potato people.  So cute!

"BOOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOooooooo"

Corwin's has big BIG teeth.

Osric decided to color blood on the mouth of his ghost, to make it extra-spooky!
