What-What?! Week of July 31st

Another slow weekend...

It's been pretty warm here this past week, so yesterday while we were at the store, we bought the kids squirt guns:

Gettin' ready!

On the hunt.  In this picture, you can also see our squash plants (far left), which we've started harvesting from.  Osric and Saffron like the squash, Corwin doesn't care for it much.  I like it plenty, especially breaded and fried. :P

We also bought Ozzy another pair of (Star Wars) sandals -- he killed the last ones in about a month.  These ones are a different style, so hopefully they last longer.  Apparently being worn for hours everyday by a little boy is hard on shoes.

He let me put his hair up in a ponytail yesterday, which made him look a lot like my sister, in my opinion:

We went for a walk, too.

And one more:

So cute!

Art Thursday -- July 27th

Last weekend, we found a complete (barely used) set of fashion plates at the thrift store.  We brought it home, and all three kids started making their own people.  This is one of Saffron's sets.

What-What?! Week of July 24th

This week we did nothing.

I have spent the past two weeks at work embroiled in upgrading our codebase to be compatible with PHP 7, which has meant a lot of testing/fixing/retesting over and over.  I think everyone in the department was tired and done with it -- we've basically been working on this in addition to all the normal stuff (customer and inter-departmental support, urgent bug fixes, etc.), and it has just been a slog.  I could tell by the end that the developers were all getting tired and hurried, because they were starting to make mistakes -- I think every single developer committed a syntax error or other basic mistake last week.

But Friday we released it all.  So it's done, and we can all do something else now.

Yesterday, we took the kids to our neighbor's birthday party.  our kids had a good time playing with everyone, the big kids got temporary tattoos, and the boys played a squirt gun game over and over (they had to knock down some mini-cups with water).  One of the other guests also brought a tiny puppy, which was a huge hit.  So far I haven't heard any "can we get a puppy?" whining, but I'm sure it's coming. :P

The Weekly What-What?! Week of July 17th

This weekend, we're just sitting around at home, basically.  Went shopping at Kohl's yesterday, went for a walk and caught some Pok√©mon, and generally watched the children play outside.

Yes, there is an extra kid there -- the neighbor's son.  Our kids live in their yard, and their kid lives in ours.  They play together nearly every day.

Skagit Highland Games

Last weekend, we went to the Skagit Highland Games, which was good fun.  We saw the sheepdog trails and other competitions (mostly throwing heavy things), as well as dancing, music, and shopping.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to take pictures until we got to the children's tent... where there was a fire engine:

Corey figured out how to get one of the cubbies open on the back of the engine, which the children were not supposed to do.

In the cab of the fire truck.

Building a castle!  This was a pretty cool playset -- the wooden castle walls fit together with pegs, and can be re-configured various ways.
At the craft tent -- Saffron and Corwin made their own paper shields.  Saffron also practiced weaving on a loom they had set up, and made her own clan Robertson button:

Afterwards, we headed over to the playground just outside the Highland Games.  Saffron and two little girls played together -- one of them was from a dance schools that was there, and gave them a demonstration.

Altogether, we had a good time.  It's not as big or as busy as the Pleasanton games back in California, but a good time nonetheless.  We joined the Celtic Arts Foundation that runs event, so we'll probably go to other events throughout the year, too.

What-What?! Week of July 9th

Lord Hill Regional Park

Last weekend, we went to Lord Hill Regional Park, located in the southern part of Snohomish.  It was a bit of a drive, out beyond the farmland, but I think it was worth it.  The park itself was lovely, the trails were wide and generally in good condition, and it wasn't as swampy and wet as some of the other forests we've been to.

"Live, uh, finds a way"

Interesting texture on this tree.  Dunno what could have caused it.

An absolutely huge, hollowed out tree stump.

They were looking at berries, I think.

One of the wider parts of the trail.

Pretty leaves.
We all had a good time.  Ozzy spent part of the time being scared -- I don't know why, but he's decided that forests are scary.  He did lighten up after a while, though.

What-What?! Week of July 3rd

This past week was pretty slow.  I don't think we're doing much this weekend other than barbequing.

Last weekend, we had out friend's kids over, which was a lot of fun.  It was particularly funny when the husband decided to play Minecraft; he wound up with every single kid in the house gathered around:

The husband and I have also been playing Robo Rally recently, a board game.  Normally each person would only have one robot, but we've each been playing two of them.  It's kind of great, because when things go horribly wrong, you still have another 'bot to use:
All those exclamation points are damage to my robot.  This was just after the first turn of the game.  Poor Twitch didn't have a great game. xP

That's it for right now.
