What-What?! Week of August 9th

I thought it would be nice to show off some of Saffron's artwork -- she draws every single day, so you can imagine there's a lot.  These are from her most recent sketchbook.

"Mermaid Girls"
"Green Genie"

"Paintra"
This is a character from the Kirby games, shown here as an actual human.

"Susie"
This is also a character from one of the Kirby games.  She's wearing a kind of mech suit, similar to Iron Man.

"Nervous Schoolgirl"

"Saffron as a Kirby Character"

"Moth Girl"
I love that this one is cute, but not too cute -- the red and blue eyes are kind of creepy.

"Prince Fluff"
Did you know that this is a Kirby character?  He's made out of yarn.

"Comics Suck"
This reads:
"Comics suck."
"We ARE a comic, Rose."

What-What?! Week of July 7th

I don't know what we've been doing, but I guess we've been busy. xP

Last weekend, we headed out to an SCA arts and sciences event, set up to showcase artists' work and get feedback.  There was an absolute ton of stuff to look at, and a ton of people too, which unfortunately meant that I didn't get as many pictures as I would've liked.

I thought this weaving was very cool -- this lady had a few other pieces that, from even just a short distance, looked like paintings.

This is actually block-printed designs with embroidered edges -- but it looks like reverse applique until you get really close.

Ordinarily when you see this kind of weaving, it's in the thicker gauge that you see in the upper right-hand corner; the thread used for this piece is so much finer.  Very impressive!

I was looking at this person's display, looked down and saw this little strawberry -- I thought it was a delightfully playful detail.

Card weaving, featuring actual cards.

This is a girdle book -- basically a book with a convenient fabric handle.  I'd like to make one of these for my outfit, because I think they're cool.

Chart showing time periods with book making techniques/materials.

A lovely late 15th century (I think) German hat.  For a while, it was fashionable in Germany to have these square or circular flat hats, which (depending on the specific specimen) could be either elegant or comical.

This lady had some very nice geometric needlepoint designs -- I took this picture so I could look up German brickstitch, which I haven't done yet, but will... eventually.

Art Thursday -- December 1st

"GANMO EXPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Corwin has absolutely covered our house in paper this week -- last week, he had very little interested in drawing or writing, but this week, that's all he's done.  This paper describes some Mech armament, including medium lasers, EER small bombs, medium pulse bombs and WHD death bombs.  I think the number of exclamation marks shows his enthusiasm. :P

Art Thursday -- November 2nd

"Me on Halloween"
Ozzy made this picture, with his potato people.  I am the banana-shaped person standing next to him -- he is in the middle, wearing his blue ninja costume.  On the right is a monster.  Everyone is wearing polkadots, because that was fun to do with the marker.

Art Thursday -- October 6th

"The Log Cabin"
I thought this was a very nice, detailed picture.  There's a cookpot on the right, over the fire.  The kids playing in front of the house, with the cats and their kittens watching.  There's also a mountain goat and a deer by the river.

Art Thursday -- September 8th

"Four-Armed Monster"
This is one of Corwin's pieces.  Dunno what's up with the "9*9" at the top -- probably health points or damage or something.  Unfortunately, if I were to ask him, it'd be a 20 minute monologue, which I do not have the energy for right now.

Art Thursday -- August 25th

"A Girl in Paris"
A little girl going to school -- you can see her house on the left side, and the rest of town on the right.

Art Thursday -- August 18th

"A Scene in the Palace"
I thought this is an interesting picture because the four cats all have different poses.

Art Thursday -- August 11th

"Ninetails"
Saffron's been into pokemon lately, so this is a picture of ninetails (a nine-tailed fox pokemon) and her pokemon trainer.

Art Thursday -- July 27th

"Fashion!"
Last weekend, we found a complete (barely used) set of fashion plates at the thrift store.  We brought it home, and all three kids started making their own people.  This is one of Saffron's sets.

Art Thursday -- June 30th

"Lego Princess"
Saffron's been making these Lego pictures lately.  This one is of a princess.

Art Thursday -- June 2nd

"Farm Craft Character - Ednaya"
A merchant class character from Deersheart, Ednaya trades in furs, axes, seeds, and livestock like sheep, chickens, pigs, horses, and goats.

Art Thursday -- May 26th

"A Day in the Royal Court"
A queen with her retinue; a wizard, ladies-in-waiting, a singing fairy and other musicians (playing drums and a lute), and possibly a witch (lower right).  I appreciate the composition here, and especially the sense of motion in the drummer's hands.

Art Thursday -- April 28th

"The Phoenix Games"
Saffron's imaginary Olympics-esque games.  Featuring Corwin, (their friend) Samuel and Osric on the red team, while the blue team features Saffron, (their friends) Thomas and Helen.

April 14th - Art Thursday

"Uh... Pirates?"
A Calvin and Hobbes-inspired comic.  The kids up in their tree house are pretending to be pirates.

Art Thursday -- April 7th

"The Dragon Fighters"
This is actually a really nice picture, but unfortunately the lines are very light.  In the upper lefthand corner, there is a dragon flying around, while in the center are three heroes; a woman who is a mage, a dwarf fighter, and a human fighter.  This was inspired by the Dragonlance books, which Saffron has been devouring this past week.

Art Thursday -- March 24th

"Tea at the Cottage"
This is Osric's picture, with lots of stickers.  Because he likes stickers.

Art Thursday -- March 17th

"Tea Party"
Just a tea party.  The kids seem to have taken a liking to them.  Little Oz even had one by himself yesterday.

Art Thursday -- March 3rd

"The Style Whacker"
A different kind of art.  This is Corwin's entry into the Lego Lloyd vs Lasha contest, where kids have to design a vehicle that Lloyd (a ninja) can use to catch Lasha (a snake guy).  The Style Whacker is a hopping mech with a tail that it uses to balance and fight bad guys.  Corwin really hopes to win, and I hope so too; he spent a long time designing this.

Art Thursday -- February 18th

"Calvin's New Home"
Calvin and Hobbes' new home.  Calvin and his mom are enjoying the afternoon sunlight (lower right), but unfortunately Calvin's dad is sick in bed (upper right).  Hobbes is watching TV in the lower left.
