What-What?! Week of September 12th

I've been away from home for about a month now, dealing with family things.  It had occurred to me after the first week or so that my flowers in my garden would all probably be dead by the time I got back.  Some of them are definitely looking a bit worse for wear, but thankfully most of them are already used to being ignored, so they're doing okay.

Violas pretty much withstand everything -- massive heat, snow, whatever.  I've totally ignored these for a year now and the little guys are fine.

My massive butterfly bush is still going strong too -- it's very fragrant this time of year, and full of butterflies and bees.

BEES!

The husband's phone has some fancy photo settings, so I messed with them.

What-What?! Week of August 12th

So, I've pretty much just been dead busy/tired with work, family responsibilities, and all that kind of thing.

In the interim, we haven't done too much... it's been a bit hot to go hiking (well, and everyone else in the world is hiking too...).  We did go back to Kayak Point, to hang out on the beach again:

The kids spent most of the time digging holes

This was their first one

Osric and I did build a castle, though

Osric coming threatening close to Saffron with a bucket of water O___O

Friday, the husband and kids came to work because there was a party for two of my coworkers -- they are expecting a baby here in the near future.  We had some fun :)

Oz was so excited about this mustache!

"Duck man"

We were given some of the plants that had been used as decoration for the party.  These are succulents of some kind, grown by one of the women in sales -- she told us that they grow really well here, so here's hoping for lots of growth!  Yesterday, we planted them:

What-What?! Week of August 21st

This week, pictures from the garden!

But first, some kid standing around in the backyard.

The kids sunflowers are starting to bloom.  This one, not so much...

But Corwin's is coming along nicely.
We weeded the garden again, and picked our second harvest of radishes.
The kids and the neighbor's boy all took the radish tops over to the fence-line, where the rabbits live.

The next day, Corwin's sunflower had bloomed WAY more:

Oh, yeah, and our cucumbers are coming along nicely:
These guys seemed to have appeared overnight, almost.

What-What?! Week of June 12th

So I didn't post on Thursday because I couldn't find any pictures.  Imagine that?  The kids have been too busy outside, or reading, or playing with toys.

Last weekend, it was sunny, so we decided to plant some plants.

First, the husband put up the canopy.  The children watched.

Because we don't have a place to put the plants yet, we made some starter containers out of apple containers from Costco.  The husband punched a hole in the bottom of each, so there would be drainage.

Then we lined the containers with newspaper, and added dirt.

We planted radishes and cucumbers.  Wednesday, the husband went to the store and picked up lumber to make a planter box, but we haven't gotten round to putting that together yet.  The radishes have already sprouted!

In other news, I finally got around to putting together the Lego set the husband got me for my birthday:
The dragon is adorable!  And very articulated.  It's now living perched on my computer monitor.  I really love this set -- it has a lot of neat little details.  Seriously thinking about getting the kids each their own dragon set for Christmas.

What-What?! Week of July 26th

My parents finished their visit this past week.  It was very nice to have them over; I've missed them a lot since we left.  The weather was nice the whole time they were here, and now it's rainy again. 'Cuz Washington.  Before they left, we got some nice pictures of me with my parents, and also our family:
A good picture of our family still involves at least one person not looking at the camera. :P
Also, I finally got photos off of the husband's phone, including this one of the "Connect Four: Lettuce Edition":
I think it's a pretty nifty setup.  Our backyard is pretty big, but even still, something like this would not go amiss.  I would really like to start a garden, but I think that winter's going be here before anything happens.  We're actually heading to the hardware store later to pick up various supplies for household projects.  Like, 5 different household projects, because we've been saving up. xP

Saffron dressed like she was from the 80s on Tuesday:
Saffron actually dressed herself in another similar color-coordinated outfit later in the week, also with the 80s-style side ponytail.

I will post something more substantial next week, since the projects on my weekly docket shouldn't be too time intensive.  Maybe I'll even cook something new.
