What-What?! Week of March 3rd

It's March already?!

Not too much to post about -- we're working on gathering camping gear for the next SCA event, as well as another set of costumes and that kind of thing.

Here's some pictures of the big snow we had in mid-February (there is still snow in my yard people!):
Osric had a good time playing though.  Seen here with his snow hat.

The snow hat on the BBQ

You can see in the background here that the grain silo collapsed from the weight of the snow.  Used to be conical the other way

The slush puddle at the end of the street -- this was incredibly slippery.  Watched many cars slide their way through there.

Snow, snow, snow, snow, snow, snow, snow, snow, snow...

What-What?! Week of February 10th

The word of the day is snow.

Snow.

Snow.

Snow.

WTH.

We had ~4 inches of snow last weekend, and then another 6 more on Friday, and now it looks like forecasts are calling for another 9-12 inches of snow on Tuesday.  I don't like it.

I miss being able to see the grass.

We've spend quite a bit of time clearing off the car and driveway.

Oz and I made Jabba the Hutt in snow.

Playing with Oz.  The road doesn't look too bad in this pic, but it's currently a sheet of ice completely covered with snow.

Swiss cheese snow, from the water dripping off the tree.

This is what it looked like toward the beginning of Friday's snowstorm.  There's more now.

What-What?! Week of December 11th

They kept saying it was going to snow... and it didn't, and it didn't, and then...

IT DID!

Not a ton, but enough to where I worked from home.  Ozzy and I took a break in the afternoon and made a miniature snowman family.

Other than that, we've been getting ready for Corwin's birthday and Christmas.  Got a tree up and decorated, and I spent part of last night rearranging presents to get them to (mostly, sorta) fit under the tree.  We bought a smaller tree this year than last, and it's a bit apparent. :P

Next weekend, we'll be celebrating Corwin's birthday, which I feel a bit bad about, because I have spent NO time at all on it.  He wants a Skyrim (like the video game) birthday, and I'm at a bit of a loss what to do for it.  Whatever I do, I'll post pictures next week.

What-What?! Week of December 4th

It's supposed to snow this week!

So, in preparation for this, we're stocking up on food, and getting our Chrismas tree... 'cuz, uh, that's important.

Other than that, not much going on.  Planning on replacing the back door on the house next weekend, which will be quite exciting.  After looking at the directions, we decided to do it ourselves.  Gotta put lights up on the house, too.

That's it for this week -- hopefully something more interesting for next week. :3

What-What?! Week of November 30th

Warning:  This week's post is all about food.  If you don't want to read about food, then I suggest reading about how to make knots, or maybe just stare at pretty colors.

Edit: It snowed!  And now the snow has partially melted, and turned into ice!  Yay, ice skating!
(Yay, right?  ...Right?)

We survived Thanksgiving, yay!  The husband had a short week at work, which was absolutely marvelous.

The Dinner was pretty simple this year; turkey, cornbread stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce, roasted sweet potatoes, and gravy (of course).  Dessert was Kentucky Pegasus pie and pumpkin pie.

We did some minor shopping on Black Friday, mostly online.  I grabbed Saffron an inexpensive winter coat from Goodwill -- it's bright, shiny purple and she loves it.  Also bought two more turkeys from Target, because the price per pound was unbeatable.  No more space in the freezer now, and we'll be eating turkey for a month... oops, I guess? :P

Kentucky Pegasus Pie via Food.com

I've made this pie before, but it's been quite a while.  It's akin to eating a cookie that is also a pie, and it is delicious.  Because it'd been about a year since I last baked it, I followed the recipe closely, only adding a bit of salt.  Next time, I think I'm going to use half brown sugar and half granulated sugar, and add more pecans... a lot more pecans.

(The history of the Pegasus pie is also pretty interesting, if you're into reading about food history).

Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Usually, I follow The Pioneer Woman's cranberry sauce recipe, which is good, but a bit too fluid.  Wanting a thicker sauce, I used this recipe from the Food Network, and adjusted it so:

Ingredients:
  • 1 - 12oz package cranberries
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Pinch of salt
Put all ingredients into a large pot (larger than you think you'll need --my cranberry sauce always splatters).  Bring to a simmer over medium heat, and let cook for about 10 minutes.  Let cool, and enjoy.
